Learn how to give yourself a spa quality pedicure

Did you know that one-quarter of bones in the human body are in your hands and feet? Our feet are sturdy, reliable, and will manage miles. But they are also the limb that is very overworked and under-appreciated. Often the only time they get to rest at heart level to revive is when we are sleeping, so creating a weekly or monthly ritual of giving them a little additional TLC will not just help your feet feel better, but it is going to provide relief for your entire body.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, spending a little time with self-massage acupressure, body oils, and salts together helps us feel grounded. Set your timer for 20 minutes (or don’t, in case you’ve got more time), play your favourite relaxing playlist, and get ready for a true treat.

#1 Prep.

Light a candle, Palo Santo stick, or a package of sage to smudge – even if it’s through the daytime, a burning ritual is a wonderful way to set the mood. Before getting your toes wet, remove that may be left with nail polish. You have the choice of buffing your toenails after giving a rinse to the toes. This is helpful if favor a more natural appearance or your nails tend to have ridges, but feel free to skip this step if you are short on time.

#2 Drink five to 10 minutes.

Utilising salts, run a foot soak. You can achieve it on your own bathtub. Or, even if you do not have one, a big lobster pot or stew pot works equally as well. Epsom salt baths help soothe tired and sore muscles, so adding the salt is a fantastic place to start. Feel free to add a few drops of your favourite essential oil scents like peppermint or lavender can be therapeutic. Top it off with a oil such as avocado, coconut, jojoba, or even olive oil remain hydrated.

Sit here for five to 10 minutes letting the salts and oils work on your toes and soaking it up. Put your phone away – this is not a time to reply mails or scroll through Instagram – and pick a favourite, book, magazine, or your own journal up . Another idea would be to use this time for a five- to 10-minute meditation.

#3 Buff the feet and calves with an exfoliating scrub.

Once your boil begins to cool, take your favorite body scrub and massage it to the toes and calves. You can make one readily with olive oil and sugar if you don’t possess a body scrub available. Insert 1/2 cup of brown sugar to a bowl and approximately ⅛ cup of olive oil. Stir until the sugar is coated, adding more sugar or oil .Take your time – spend the balls of their toes, where it tends to find, and at least a minute each leg sloughing off the dead skin about the heels demanding and callused.

#4 Moisturise with balm or an oil.

Rinse off the wash with warm water, and pat it dry with a cotton towel. Using a jelly or oil, moisturize your foot and bottom leg. Oils including astringent and arnica, mentholated extracts like peppermint are known for their ability to unwind and discharge muscles that are sore. Try EiR’s roll-on liniment oil, Weleda’s arnica massage oil, or look for a pure oil on your local health food store which contains arnica. Make sure you find the calf and foot.

#5 Set aside a minute or two for acupressure.

Acupuncturist, Chinese herbologist, and mbg class instructor Paige Bourassa urges foot reflexology in patterns that help alleviate reduce pain, will be able to help you sleep by transferring stagnant energy, quell PMS symptoms and cramping, dull the pain of headaches, and more. In every one of those sequences, there’s a pressure point in the foot which will help alleviate a release. If you want to get fancy, use a tennis, lacrosse, once they’re dry to roll out some tension or trigger point ball beneath the toes.

#6 Employ your desired nail polish, if any.

If you would like to employ a base coat or a color, now’s the time to get it done. Deborah Lippman, tenoverten, Flora 1761, and côte make nontoxic shades and treatment coatings.

#7 Place your legs up the wall to get a few minutes.

After giving your toes of the love, sit with your bum against it next to a wall. Lie back on the ground and swing your legs up against the wall so your toes are in the air and your thighs are perpendicular to your chest, which is relaxing on the ground. Stay here for 5 minutes along with your hands by your side. Take stomach breaths and out while the blood drains out of the legs, gets recycled in the torso, and can be recirculated. This is a superb exercise to do prior to bed or if your toes are feeling tired.
